OMG I am so grateful
Now I know my mistakes xD
I started a marine pilot helmet which I didn't finish because it was waaay too big
I have a small head XD

Edit: How do you scale the shins?
I also made a shin which was too big.....
I know how to scale biceps, but not crotch plates and chest plates :S

I added the detail pieces to the back of the torso and resined over them...

(Continued on next post)

Just wondering, are you using cardboard for those brown colored areas? im trying to find a good way to give that part texture/ depth too.

btw you're making some excellent progress! i wish i could get started on mine asap but i'm still pepping all of my pieces =(

=(

It's a material called pulp board. Pulp board is basically layers of rough paper (equivalent of about 500lb cardstock, sort of like the paperboard you can get at Hobby Lobby or Michael's). It's about 1/16th of an inch thick (or 1.5 mm) and makes for great detail pieces (as well as architectural models, what I use pulp board for most of the time).

How is 500lb cardstock even possible???
I ran out of cardstock a few days ago and went to buy some, and the highest rating I saw was 110 O.O

And you still didn't answer my question about you being Romanian xD

It's only equivalent to 500lb cardstock, there is actually not such thing. I only meant that it is about 5 times as thick as 110lb cardstock. Pulp board is just a very thick pulp paper.

And, no, I'm not romanian, I'm a very american white boy, born and raised in central illinois. My forum name actually originates from back in the 90's about the time of the movie Titanic (it was HUGE when I was a teenager), the HMS Carpathia is the ship that rescued the survivors of the Titanic. The "vh" is very esoteric, so I won't even go into it..

By the way, here's a quick teaser...

I figured at night while I can't resin or bondo, I can work on this.

Here's another update, they just keep coming...

This is the grip, clip and shoulder rest...

Here they are assembled (the clip dosen't quite fit just yet)...

And here's how it fits in my hand...

More to come, but I'm done pepping for tonight, it's 2:15 am.

ok man, how in the world are you pepping your pieces so fast! the only way i can think is if you have a sweat shop of kids cutting and folding paper for you lol

Oh, lol XD

And awww, Romanians are super cool ^^

And nice work, your super fast at pepping o.o

It is... Beautiful!

Carp...

That's pretty good looking, I might give it a go when I finish my proto pep of rhinoc's Kat-320 helmet and my S2AM SRS99C-AMB

It's a real beauty, alright. At that size of piece (for the sides of the AR), do you reinforce your cardstock? What with?

And uh oh, you're making me want to do a Carter build...

And another update. Not armor, but part of the outfit. Juliet76 put out a very nice set of blueprints for various Reach weapons (link here: http://www.405th.com/showthread.php/18541-Juliet76's-Blueprints), including this knife. Tonight, I used those blueprints to model this and brought it into pep, unfolded it and built it. It actually went together a lot easier than I had anticipated...

Here it is next to the sheath I built from foam core...

And a quick peek at how it will look attached to the armor...

Based on feedback, I'll most likely release this knife file and the sliced file for the sheath in Ruze's Reach file thread.

Well, that's it for now. Thanks again everyone for the compliments and comments. I love getting feedback on my work, so let me know what you think.

what did you scale the knife and sheath at?

what did you scale the knife and sheath at?

I created the knife model in sketchup to the length of the blueprint made by Juliet76. However, when you transfer the file to pep, the units get confused. One unit in sketchup is one inch, while one unit in pep is one millimeter, so I had to enter a scale factor of 25.4 in order to convert inches to millimeters. The pep file itself dosen't need to be scaled any further, unless you want a smaller or larger knife.

It's a real beauty, alright. At that size of piece (for the sides of the AR), do you reinforce your cardstock? What with?

I reinforced the larger parts with 1/4" and 1/2" foam core, much like I did my torso piece. I actually took some pictures of this process. So, here's a little tut...

First, you identify the part you want to reinforce and cut it out. Then, lay it over your reinforcment material (foam core, cardboard, etc.) and trace the part you want to reinforce, excluding any tabs. In this case, I'm reinforcing either side of the grip. After cutting out the foam core, assemble some of the parts that will go around the reinforced part...
DSC04085.jpg

Then, once enough has been build up, put in place the reinforcement, using the tabs from the parts surrounding the reinforcment...

DSC04088.jpg

Once the reinforcement is in place, finish adding the surrounding parts until the reinforcement is surrounded on all desired edges, then attach the cardstock piece over top it and the exposed tabs...

DSC04089.jpg

That's one way of reinforcing, the way to best reinforce for weapons anyway. I did it a little differently for my torso, but the same basic concept applies. So, that's pretty much it for now.
