Halo 3 - Custom High Detail Models

Hello all,

Ive been busy thinking outside the box again,.. I know uh oh!! :D

Im working on a vac forming machine design Im going to modify to get it 24 x 24" ( http://www.tk560.com/vactable2.html ).
I think this design should be the easiest as I can hit the garage sales for the heating element, or for that matter I can go to walmart and buy a couple dutch ovens for their heating elements. I like the drop down design due to the fact the softening plastic sheet doesnt have any chance of drooping down into the element itself. And its like the one on mythbusters, so its gotta be cool. :p

The next lil trick is Im coming up with a design to make a game accurate compound curved gold visor, complete with the indents in a single sheet.

The donor plastic "hopefully" will be the plastic case from a zephyr motorcycle helmet sold at walmart, the upper section of this packaging is precisely what is needed, and I have inquired with bell helmets about ordering just the plastic cases they sell with their zephyr helmets.

Next Im looking into a special gold window film that will be heated, and then formed under said vaccum forming machine, and applied to the inside of the curved plastic.

The alternative to this design is using a clear thermosetting plexiglass like that used in the cockpits of fighter aircraft, and applying the reflective gold film and then heat forming them both on a mold.

Ill keep you informed of my progress.

Im using the game models as a base and the using forge as reference. Don’t wory, its about as game acurite as I can feasibly get it while still having it (possibly?) make-able.
Awesome. So I can assume it's to the same proportions so scaling won't be too much of a challenge. OMG I want this so bad! Haha.

I thiiiiiink Westerfields does just that, but there's isn't gold, and it looks a little wonky to me, so if you pulled it off, you'd be a true hero around here. :)

I would hate to use that as my visor. It looks like coke bottle vision at best. Plus the indent looks waaaay too deep. Im going to b e going for a much cleaner look and visual quality for what Im trying to do.

yeah definitly if anything just make a visor thats just flat and allow people to print that and use it as a templat over something like a coke bottle (which is what i did) and cut it out that way hopefully you guys know what i mean

Im formualting ideas on how to get the indent correctly. Im thinking of using a sheet of 1/8" plexiglass/lexan and form it over a blank mold of the correct shape. Then use it to cast the indentation when I make a pull on the vac forming machine.

If I can get the gold window tint idea to work, it should pull effortlessly, however should the window tint not relax like the plexi/lexan, it could fall off, or pull away resulting in a failure to get the gold, yet leaving a nice pull for the shape.

I just made an order for evercoat- lightweight (FIB-156) 14 dollars a gallon, resin/fiberglass particle impregnated paste. So as soon as I get to finishing cutting out the Ream of Cardboard paper I printed everything out on, I will eventually work my way to laying the paste in the paper molds.

Im just hoping the paste doesnt soak intot he cardboardpaper. Im going to be laying laquer on the paper hopefully that will help. Otherwise Ill just lay primer on them before I lay the paste in them.

One thing, though,... Has anyone comiled HI-RES pictures of each part of the Master cheif character from Halo 3, from all angles?

Ill digg, but not sure, what I can find. For accuracy we'll need those ppl with Xbox's to grab all the screenies possible for the Halo 3 Characters...

I had to unwrap it myself, which is cool cause I'm going to make a bigger one for a friend of mine that is a gaint! When I finish his armor he will stand 7ft or lil taller. Crazy right?

P.S. I think I still have that file but if I need it I'll come running back to you. I think that's the best helm pep for me, though I might use the new one not shure.

DoC

Die'n to see the new torso btw.

I have doing some reading on papercrafting elsewhere on the net,... yes there IS more internet out there, although I dont view it much LOL.

Apparently the most common release agent for papercrafting is simply non stick vegetable oil sprays for cooking.

I think Ill try it out on something easy like one of the hands and test out the cast after its fully cured.

Ok well I’ve updated the first post with a version of the model tat has a tolerance of 45 degree (the default is 2 degrees) this means that there’s less scoring for those of you who hate it. Personally I think it adds strength but that’s just a personal theory that I cant even back up so there more then likely the same. Ill have an in-pep picture up tomorrow morning.

in other news, (keep in mind that we drive on the left side of the road so the driver sits on the right hand side of the car) I was going down a hill a little away from my house towards a junction (NOT FAST!!!!). A deer stepped out in front of me so I jammed on the breaks. Started skidding (on black ice I found afterwards). I started skidding a lil sideways so I compensated with the steering wheel by turning to the right. Deer moved, I released the breaks, wheels gripped too quickly, car turned sharply to the right and started skidding at 45 degrees straight down the road. Front-left tire blew out, car whipped into a clockwise spin. I went spinning across a junction from a minor road and slammed sideways into a low, loose brick wall. Car lifted up right onto its side and slammed back down onto the ground. Im not hurt even slightly BUT my point is that the car could have easily continued and carried on over the wall and into a roll down the side of the mountain and into the valley carrying me with it. It was defiantly close to doing so. in summery Im guna post the unfinished torso pdo tomorrow which you can play around with and stuff also its in case Im not still here in the very near future and dont get to post a final version.
Its not a pessimist point of view, its realist.

gimme a shout if you have any problems AND WAIR A SEATBELT!!!!! (I did and its why I managed to stay in my seat and not go flying out the passenger window)

Oh leave my bad typing alone... I can't get used to this Mac keyboard XD Oh man my BF knocked over the left overs from my old helmet, and all the pieces went flying, so there's no chance to finish the old one now :(

Glad you're ok, a few of my friends have hit deer over here too XP Glad you were weating a seatbelt :D

I also voted Space diaper, a lot of the other pep models are kinda... plain. Not hatin at all, but those little pouches on the belt of the space Diaper would make nifty pockets for stuff :D

Sorry I have too.

Weating? FS exactly what were you doing with a deer? Maybe we can train the deer to stay out of the WOAD (road).

P.S. Skullcandy please don't kill me ;-P

WEARING is what I meant :( *cries* I just make cool looking stuff, why do I have to spell well!!! *cries more*

Wow. I just now realized you were from Ireland. What part are you from? I took a vacation there, and I might have been near your home. I'm supprised you guys don't have wrecks on those incredibly sharp curves.

About the armor though, I don't care which one you do next. I just want it all done. NOW!!! :D

We know what you meant Skullcandy, Sorry we were just messing with you. I'm really bad at typing myslef.

Here to make you feel better

Back to subject, I really think (voted) shoulders. It would kind of complete the torso in a way, being the closet thing to it besides the already finished (perfect) helm.
