"Help!" for: Papercraft or Pepakura

Well I used the search feature for this thread and got one of two questions answered.
However, I either cannot search this correctly enough, to bring up results; or people just know better not to mess up this badly.

Will gluing (some of the) tabs on the outside of my project, as opposed to gluing them inside, effect it later? (during resin/fiberglass/bondo etc)
If it's not that big of a deal I'll leave it the way it is---but I'm curious! ^^;

It's fine to ask questions even if they've been asked. There are 200+ pages here an it's a Q/A thread, not an FAQ!

You CAN do anything you want for gluing, but I don't personally think gluing on the outside is a good idea. It creates a bump in the outer surface of the object, and you can run into problems when you try and sand it off. The paper can fray and look ugly if you do and it's better to just keep extra junk on the inside of the object. It's a preference thing really, and if you have compelling reason to do so you can try it and see how it works!

This is my first post after introducing myself so please go easy on me :p

So yeah, i've downloaded and printed Kirrou's ODST helmet. So now i've got 20 pages with rims that have numbers on it and stuff. I guess they mean i have to glue the same numbers too eachother but yeah, im kind of lost at this point.

There are literally dozens of tutorials and instructional videos throughout the forums, and not to mention the internet in general, on how to assemble a pep model. Just look around for a while, search the forums, search on Google, and, like I tell everyone...

guy's i've been doing MKIV_HD_CHEST_A4_FLYINGSQUIRL i'm kinda confused on abdominal part on how to connect it as it was separated by the main piece

Although I haven't started on my torso yet, I can tell you what my plan for it will be - and that is to leave them separated. Granted, I haven't started my research on this yet, but just from looking at photos of other builds it seems to me there would be better mobility by attaching the lower part to the undersuit at the proper height. You won't be able to touch your toes, but I think movement will be easier than if they're attached together rigidly. But like I said, I haven't researched this yet in game photos, so maybe I'm totally wrong with this approach...

This is one thing I struggled with during my build as well. I'll go ahead and refer you to the post where I show how I connect mine...

Keep in mind, however, that I did not end up using velcro since it had a tendency to give. I ended up using nylon webbing and permanently gluing the ab piece on, but with the same configuration that I was approaching with the velcro (if that makes sense). The nylon webbing does allow for some movement of the ab section, but not so much that it looks like it's not really attached.

I really wish I has a camera at the moment. Anyway I finished the line touching up and have cut out all the pieces, now comes the folding and glueing. I am going to start with the knife itself and then build the scabbard, that way if the scabbard is different, I can modify it to fit the knife.

I think i go with it being separated for more mobility

Awesome, thank you for getting back to me on that.

Like I said, I haven't really researched this yet to know whether it's supposed to be attached to the chest piece or not. Just not too keen on it pushing into my son's abdomen whenever bending forward.

Well I have the knife done, now I am working on the scabbard. Piece of advice, the opening for the blade, does have to be modified. It was to short and the opening way to small. I will try to post some pictures, at some time.

The scabbard is done. the knife and sheathe fit together. For this being my first pepakura build, I think it turned out awesome. true it is not perfect, but it is mine. I will try to gets some pictures up pretty sooon.

While the updates are nice, this is actually a "Questions and Answers" thread. If you have pictures of your build, I suggest creating a build thread in the noob forum. Otherwise, this site isn't really designed for "twitter updates".

okay so I am a tall guy and when I scale my pepakura file to my size it goes over a normal 8 by 11 sheet of card stock. So besides having to buy the pepakura program and save if on a flash drive so I can take it to staples to be printed on a large piece of thick paper(they don't carry card stock 110lb that size) anyone know what I could do to to save $$$. I am open to any suggestion

The Pepakura program allows you to bisect parts along fold lines, making one large piece into two smaller ones that can fit on one page.

It's on the second row of tools, third from the left I believe.

Specifically, in Pepakura Designer you want the tool that looks like a half-zipped zipper. As mentioned above, it lets you break pieces apart (or join them together) along the polygon edges. Quite handy. Also be aware of the Flap tool, which will let you specify which piece gets the flap, not dire but sometimes it will choose oddly.

Dorvack and Katsu...SUPER Thanks... that worked perfectly....again I am new at this and I thought I had the scaling done right & after I put all my larger pieces together I realized it was too small...AWESOME LOOKING but too small

too small as in no way my fat head will fit in there:cool, I used a bad formula for scaling, my new helm fits tight but I figure I can sand it down to fit as long as there is room for padding. I figured my daughter just got herself a Pink/Purple Spartan IV Warrior Helmet!
