WIP Jetpack - 3D

Right, so a small final update for today. I'm super-tired, so not as much progress as I would've liked today, but there's always tomorrow!

started on the upper arms, and the front of the backpack (though it's mainly filler geometry at the moment to build on) and I've added a couple of storage pockets in the "shoulders". I figured you'd find something to put in there, especially if you're using electrics. Place for batteries or loose change or something.

Still got to do the interior (which will wait until we've finalised a design for the pod movement, finish the front. Re-work the jets and attach to pods, fine details all over and vertex welding and tidying.

Hopefully get most of it finished tomorrow (assuming I get a good night's sleep)

another wee update - got the front remodelled a wee bit. I think it looks like a jetpack, now!

However, to make it fit properly to a set of torso armour, I'm going to have to mdoel it to fit a Torso model (like some of you have suggested) - Anyone reccommend a good armour model to work with in that respect?

anyway, other than that, just the pods to finish, internal structure and general tidying/faffing let!

Front as it is now.

Mark VI Armor :)

Haha okay, I meant specific models, like is there any particularly popular file that people use to create torso armour from?

Mini-update:

created, a (probably very naff) internal structure to support the pods' arms and add a wee bit more rigidity to the shell. As I've stated many many times, If anyone can come up with a better idea, I'll more than happily model it.

the wee blue springs are just for show, really.

anyway - on to finishing and fixing the pods!

This thing is fantastic, top notch work sir, top notch!! If you want a specific model, I would suggest checking with L3X BLU3RIV3R about his torso, it seems to be the most accurate Reach chest out there........no offense to others' models, you all do fine work. This looks like an exciting build!!

-Matt

I would just keep the model as it is and let other people handle the dilemma. No offence to anyone, it would inspire for extremely accurate chest files to be made that would fit this extremely accurate and amazing piece

I was thinking about this today actually, and am starting to think along the same lines. Seeing as the vast majority of people will have re-sized the torso armour, anyway (I would imagine) modelling it to fit a torso would be no guarantee of fine fitment in real life.

And as Spartan-847 said, the ODSTs and marines would still be lft out, then.

If someone's going to go to the effort of making this piece, I don't think they would mind making (probably small) modifications to fit them personally during the build? seeing as it's been modelled directly from images, it's *reasonably* accurate anyway. .
any more thoughts on this?

cheers for the link, SPRTNBD50 - I'll check it out, regardless (y)

Regardless - no more progress on this today, I took a day off ;) Not much left to do anyway, I reckon a release within the next couple of days shouldn't be a problem. do want to get this as awesome as possible, though.

Not yet, though I've just started my 12 hour shift of nothing-to-do. so I'm hoping to get it finished within the next 11 hours, assuming TV doesn't distract me. Watch this space

Right ladies and gents. Finished the model thus far. Consider it a beta model release. Here it is in.obj format

At this stage, still haven't modelled it to fit a particular torso armour (though work for that is in process) however, I've seperated the mounting points from the ends of the arms to provide a degree of adjustability, but I'm fairly confident that it should fit Reach armour fairly well. Other than that, not much has changed from the last update. Body's all welded up, finished the pod assemblies and added a wee bit more detail

This is awesome. Your attention to detail is outstanding and this model is incredible. GREAT JOB!!!!

With your permission I would like to be the Unfolder.

I would really appreciate the opportunity.

Well, I'm pretty sure Nintendude wanted to get this unfolded. But I modelled it for the community, so as long as no-one re-releases, modifies, or does anything else shady with it without permission (and I get a mention in any builds ;) ) I'm not bothered what people do with it.

Right now I'm half way done unfolding it I got the easy half done now I'm working on the harder pieces. I should be done by Sunday. There is definatly going to be a lot of parts, which I am trying to lessen that amount, but I'm putting it on as few pages as possible.
