So the smooth cast is a total bust.
If I put it on thin, I don't get coverage.
If I put it on thick, I get bumps and divots (it won't self-level like it is supposed to. This may be because it is so warm here - even though I am applying it within temperature tolerances). Sanding becomes much like working with bondo, except that when you put the next layer on, you can't be sure it is going to fill in the spot you want.
What it does do, really well, is fill-in imperfections.
So, new plan. I am going to use the Smooth Cast to fill in any leftover gaps. Sand it down. And then use Evakura's polyurethane hardening method (Evakura was kind enough to message with me with some tips).
I tested the polyurethane on a forearm last night and it seems to be hardening and smoothing just fine. I will wait until it is fully cured, but if all is good I will use 4 coats of polyurethane and a final coat of Plasti Dip for the hardening.
If anyone is wondering why I didn't just use Plasti Dip to begin with, it is $22 a can here.
The journey continues...
